Buy for your plan.
Not just the label.
Before buying fabric, calculate the design dimensions and add the allowance for your finish. Bring both the required width and height to the supplier. A piece with enough area can still be too narrow.
Your shopping checklist
- Fabric type and count: for example, 14-count Aida or 28-count evenweave. Confirm the over-one or over-two method.
- Minimum usable dimensions: both width and height, including your chosen borders.
- Units: distinguish inches from centimetres. 1 inch equals 2.54 cm.
- Cut tolerance: do not round your required dimensions down to fit a smaller listing.
- Material and finish: colour, fibre, texture and any pre-treatment should suit the chart.
An example ordering decision
For a 140 × 180 chart on 14-count Aida with 3-inch borders, the calculated cut size is 16 × 18.86 inches. A usable 18 × 21 inch piece fits. A 15 × 24 inch piece does not: the long side does not compensate for a short side below 16 inches.
Reference, not a paid recommendation
DMC’s Aida page explains fabric count and lists material details. Compare any retailer’s actual cut dimensions, delivery area and return terms yourself. No stock, price or suitability is guaranteed here.
